Typeface design (as a digital method) may be seen as an approach to creative processing that draws on both explicit and ‘poetically sensed’ data. Broadly this is a method where a creative synthesis occurs through iterative refinement. In this process interpretive letterforms and spatial treatments are used to interpret the nature of the subject. With the exception of the handmade thinking, this method can occur primarily inside digital realms. Through a process of trial and error the designer begins to refine elements and relationships often returning to the original sketches.
